Made of high-quality materials for durability
Contains a precisely formulated blend of carbon and graphite
General Purpose Copper Clad Tip Gouging Electrodes
Controlled copper coating for improved conductivity (for more efficient, cooler operation)
Air carbon gouging electrodes are designed for cutting and gouging metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum and some superalloys.
Applications for these gouging electrodes include manufacturing, maintenance, farms and repair shops
Creates an arc, melts the metal, and uses compressed air to blow the molten metal out of the groove
Typical chemical composition, 80% graphite and 20% copper
The current type is DC, and the working polarity is the positive and negative polarity of the DC electrodes
The copper coating increases electrical conductivity, providing more efficient and cooler operation.
Air carbon arc gouging is the process of creating an electric arc between the tip of the carbon electrode and the workpiece. The metal melts and a jet of high-velocity air flows down the electrode, blowing it away, leaving a clean groove. The process is simple to apply (using the same equipment as MMA welding), has a high metal removal rate, and allows tight control of the overcut profile.
The electrodes are graphite (carbon) rods with a copper coating to reduce electrode corrosion. The electrode diameter is selected according to the required planing depth and width. Cutting can be precisely controlled and molten metal/slag is kept to a minimum.
Since air carbon arc gouging does not rely on oxidation, it can be applied to a variety of metals. DC (positive electrode) usually works on steel and stainless steel, but AC is more effective on cast iron, copper and nickel alloys. Typical applications include back gouging, removal of surface and internal defects, removal of excess weld metal, and preparation of weld bevels.
Gouging torches are usually operated using a compressed air line or a separate bottled gas supply. Air supply pressure on the air line will be up to 100psi, but bottled supply air pressure is limited to around 35psi. There is no advantage to using higher pressures and flow rates if there is enough airflow to remove molten metal.
